The excitement is building and the final preparations are being made as Yorkshire prepares to welcome some of the world’s top cyclists!
There’s just 30 days to go before the start of the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire, which will see riders take on some of the county’s toughest hills and ride through some of the UK’s most spectacular scenery.
The race is split into three stages and sees riders cycle over 480km over three days:
• STAGE 1 on Friday 28th April will start in Bridlington and finish in Scarborough – 173km
• STAGE 2 on Saturday 29th April will start in Tadcaster and finish in Harrogate – 122.5km
• STAGE 3 on Sunday 30th April will start in Bradford and finish in Fox Valley, Sheffield – 194.5km
Stage 1 will be the closest event to our collection holiday parks as competitors start and finish on the Yorkshire coast, while also tackling the North York Moors region of Malton and Pickering.
It begins in Bridlington Spa with riders first heading for the pretty Yorkshire Wolds town of Pocklington for the first intermediate sprint. The classified climbs up the Côte de Garrowby Hill and Côte de Goathland will get the legs pumping before the race hits the coastline again at Whitby, where the riders will get a great view of the Abbey as they contest the second sprint of the day. The route continues on to Robin Hood’s Bay for the third and final climb and then it’s full steam into Scarborough for the now-legendary finish along North Bay.
Our holiday parks are the perfect place to catch all the action! You can combine a relaxing break in Yorkshire with seeing the very best of the Tour! Several of our holiday parks are located only a short distance from the Stage 1 route.
Flower of May Holiday Park – perfect for caravan holidays, glamping, touring and camping and seasonal touring – is located just south of Scarborough, meaning you can catch all the action on what is expected to be a dramatic finish to Stage 1!
Stage 2 sees the race move further in-land, and heads to Ripon, where visitors to our Riverside Meadows Holiday Park – which is great for touring, camping, seasonal touring and holiday home ownership – will be close to the action on two wheels!
