You don’t really need a reason to visit the historic and beautiful city of York but Easter is an especially good time to visit – even more so if you’re something of a chocoholic!
York Chocolate Festival returns this year for 4 days as part of the city’s Easter celebrations, with a chocolate market, demonstrations and workshops. A range of activities will be on offer city-wide, including at Castle Museum, York Cocoa House, York’s Chocolate Story and Goddards (the former home of the Terry family), running from Good Friday to Easter Monday.
Other Easter Events in the city include chocolate truffle making, Easter bunny making and Easter egg decorating. Feeling hungry yet?
In Parliament Street you’ll find the Little Vikings Easter Activity Tent, with face painting, Easter crafts, drama classes, storytelling and more. New inside the tent this year is a sand art activity, running all day from Friday to Sunday.
For two weeks from Friday 7 to 24 April, Parliament Street will come alive with a children’s funfair and Sunday will see the Shambles market transformed with a fun bunny trail, where families can enjoy street food in the new Shambles Food Court.
Head to Scarborough’s Sea Life Centre and learn how to waddle this Easter with 22 Humboldt penguins at your feet, at Penguin Weeks! Learn all about the threats these much loved creatures are facing in the wild and find out what you can do to help them.

Easter breaks in Yorkshire aren’t complete without a visit to Whitby. But it’s not just to walk around this picturesque fishing town or to marvel at its spectacular coastline… instead it’s all about finding those tasty Easter eggs!
An Easter egg hunt takes place every day from the 14-17th April. A series of clues leads you on a walk around the town, starting from the visitor centre, working your way back to claim a chocolately prize!
